TOOLS & SUPPLIES

When preparing to service a client experiencing extreme hair loss, it is vital that you are properly prepared.  The type of tools and brand of supplies is always going to be at the discretion of the beauty professional. However, I am sharing what I personally feel has given me great and consistent results as well as what I have grown to prefer working with.

Here are five reasons why tools and supplies are crucial in hair replacement services:

  1. Precision and Quality:
    • High-quality tools ensure precision during installation, which is essential for achieving a natural look. Tools like fine scissors, specialized combs, and precise adhesives help create seamless and undetectable hair replacements.
  2. Efficiency and Time Management:
    • Proper tools and supplies can significantly speed up the installation process. Efficient use of tools like adhesive applicators, clips, and styling devices allows for quicker service, enabling you to serve more clients effectively.
  3. Client Comfort and Satisfaction:
    • The right tools and supplies contribute to client comfort during the installation process. Gentle adhesives, comfortable fitting caps, and proper hygiene supplies ensure that the client has a pleasant experience, leading to higher satisfaction and repeat business.
  4. Durability and Longevity:
    • Quality supplies, such as high-grade adhesives and durable hair fibers, ensure that the hair replacements last longer and withstand daily activities. This durability reduces the frequency of maintenance visits, providing better value to clients.
  5. Versatility and Customization:
    • A diverse set of tools and supplies allows for greater customization to meet individual client needs. Different types of hair fibers, adhesives, and styling tools enable you to tailor each installation to the client’s specific preferences and hair and hair type, enhancing the overall result

TOOLS

  1. Clipper  – It doesn’t really matter the brand of clipper. It will be used to remove the bulk of hair in the designated area of concern, primarily the crown area.
  2. Trimmer – It doesn’t matter the brand. It will be used to outline area of the scalp that you will be applying your unit, as well as getting your cut a little closer.
  3. Shaver – It doesn’t matter the brand. It will be used to get that extremely close, smooth foundation so that your unit will adhere properly.
  4. Applicator Brush – My preference is rubber applicators, they will give you a smoother, thinner layer of adhesive as opposed to an applicator with bristles.
  5. Measuring Tape – Doesn’t need to be anything fancy. It will be used to help you measure areas of concern so that you get an accurate fit of unit.
  6. Chinese Marker – Basically a peeling pencil. White or Black, that is going to be the beauty professional preference. It will be used to assist you in marking client’s hairline and measurements.
  7. Sewing Scissors – These are not ‘necessary’ but a preference for me. They are typically small thin scissors. I personally use them to get in close & cut excess  pieces of my unit.
  8. Razor Blade – Instead of using the sewing scissors some people are more comfortable using a razor blade.
  9. Shears – The shears you use when cutting clients’ hair.
  10. Feather Razor – This is not necessary, but depending on your cutting skills and techniques this is a professional preference.
  11. Black Permanent Marker – This will be used to mark attachment points inside your unit.
  12. Cutting and Rattail Comb
  13. Hair Clips
  14. Curling / Flat Iron – For styling

SUPPLIES

  1. Topper – Your unit of choice, according to your clients’ specific needs. ( my preference is thin skin polyurethane) but it will always be up to the beauty professionals’ comfort, preference and the clients’ needs.
  2. Scalp Protectant – Alcohol based dab on liquid used to assist in reducing oils on the scalp as well as providing a thin layer of protection against adhesive. (I have my own brand but outside of that Walker carries a great scalp protector.
  3. Adhesive – Adhesives come in a variety of types. From regular to super & ultra hold. As well as acrylic, silicone, & water based and soft/hard bonds.  My suggestion would be to have at least four different types to accommodate different skin sensitivities , hold durations, lifestyle and type of hair system. (I strongly recommend testing several and making sure to discuss allergies/skin issues with the client during their consultation as well as performing a patch test).
  4. Tape Adhesive – This is not necessary, but I prefer using a double sided straight as well as curved adhesive tape to reinforce the seam of the unit. Walker also carries great varieties of double sided tape.
  5. Adhesive Remover – C22 is an all time favorite for proper removal of the unit on the scalp.
  6. Your favorite professional service and maintenance products.
